Volunteer
Enso House continues to run almost entirely through the volunteer efforts
of our core staff of caregivers and many other individuals.
We have an
ongoing need for caregivers, caregiving assistants and people willing
to help out in many critical areas which support our efforts
even though they
may not have direct contact with residents.
Anyone who volunteers for Enso House must be mindful of the need
to be flexible and willing to tailor care to the needs of individual
residents and their families. We would like to provide a companion
24 hours a day for those patients who want this. However, as a volunteer
caregiver, you may or may not find yourself on a shift with a particular
patient before they die.
Enso House volunteers have to be flexible in making themselves available for
providing care for
our patients. There may be times when a volunteer is assigned to take a shift as a companion
at the bedside. There may be times when it is more critical for a volunteer to go shopping for
groceries or other supplies or to help in cleaning the house. These tasks are not as romantic
as being a companion for the dying. However, they all play a role in holding the house; in
supporting the core caregivers, the patient's family, and the patient in his or her process of
living to the end of this life.
All prospective volunteers must complete an application form (see below), attend a two-day
training session at Enso House, complete an Adult Family Home background check, and obtain
a TB test.
Volunteers preparing or handling food must have a current Food Handler's Permit. Volunteers
providing direct patient care must have current CPR and Adult First Aid certification.
Please contact our Director, Ann Cutcher
(360-331-4699) if you would like to become an Enso House volunteer.
